SYMPTOMS

Consider the following scenario:
  • You work with a SharePoint site on a server that is running Microsoft SharePoint Server 2010.
  • The SharePoint site uses alternate access mapping for URLs in the various content zones.
  • As a SharePoint content page owner, you receive a notification e-mail message that the content page was updated.
  • You click the hyperlink in the e-mail message that links to the content page that was updated.
In this scenario, you do not visit the content page that was updated. Instead, you receive an error message that states that the page cannot be found.

CAUSE

This problem may occur if the SharePoint site uses the Variations feature. E-mail messages to content page owners are based on the default alternate access mapping zone.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this problem, open the content page that has changed. Then, replace the alternate access mapping default zone in the URL with your correct zone.
