SYMPTOMS

Consider the following scenario:
  • You print an XML Paper Specification (XPS) file by using a Microsoft .NET Framework 3.0-based Windows Presentation Foundation (WPF) application.
  • The XPS file uses a combination of fonts that share the same TrueType Collection (TTC) file.
In this scenario, some text in the XPS file is displayed incorrectly in the printed page.

CAUSE

This issue occurs because WPF cannot differentiate the fonts of the same TTC file in the XPS file. This behavior causes all corresponding glyphs to be packaged incorrectly in the .odttf file. These glyphs are used to render the text for the fonts. Therefore, some text cannot be rendered and is displayed incorrectly.

RESOLUTION

WORKAROUND

To work around this issue, use one of the following methods:
  • Do not use a combination of fonts from the same TTC file in the WPF application.
  • Use the BitmapEffect property on the visible objects that use a font from the combination of fonts from the same TTC file. However, the text of the visible objects cannot be changed in the generated XPS file.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed in the "Applies to" section.

MORE INFORMATION

The .odttf file type is an embedded font file type that is used in Microsoft XPS files and in 2007 Microsoft Office files.
