SYMPTOMS

Consider the following scenario:
  • On a computer that is running an x64-based Italian version of the Windows operating system, you have an Italian version of Microsoft SQL Server 2005 installed.
  • You install the Italian version of SQL Server 2008 R2 without the SQL Server Analysis Services (SSAS) component.
  • You use the Repair option to add the SSAS component.
In this scenario, you may encounter the following symptoms.

Symptom 1

When you try to create an SSAS project by using SQL Server 2008 R2 Business Intelligence Development Studio (BIDS), you receive the following error message:
Not open 'C: \ Program Files (x86) \ Microsoft Visual Studio 9.0 \ Common7 \ IDE \ PrivateAssemblies \ Business Intelligence Projects \ AnalysisServicesProject.dwproj' because its project type (. Dwproj) is not supported by current versions of the application. For the opening, use a version that supports this type of project.

Symptom 2

When you try to create a SQL Server Integration Services (SSIS) project by using SQL Server 2008 R2 BIDS, you receive the following error message:
Could not load file or assembly 'Microsoft.DataWarehouse, Version = 10.0.0.0, Culture = neutral, PublicKeyToken = 89845dcd8080cc91' or one of its dependencies. Strong name validation failed. (Exception from HRESULT: 0x8013141A)

Symptom 3

When you try to create a SQL Server Reporting Services (SSRS) project by using SQL Server 2008 R2 BIDS, you receive the following error message:
Could not load file or assembly 'Microsoft.ReportingServices.Designer, Version = 10.0.0.0, Culture = neutral, PublicKeyToken = 89845dcd8080cc91' or one of its dependencies. Strong name validation failed. (Exception from HRESULT: 0x8013141A)

Note This problem also occurs in the French, Chinese (Simplified), German, and Spanish (Spain - Modern Sort) versions of SQL Server 2008 R2.
