PerformancePoint 2010 Dashboard Designer crashes when the Dashboarddesigner.exe.config file is deleted from a client computer

SYMPTOMS

Consider the following scenario:
  • You start and then close PerformancePoint 2010 Dashboard Designer.
  • You accidentally delete the Dashboarddesigner.exe.config file.
  • You try to restart PerformancePoint 2010 Dashboard Designer.
In this scenario, PerformancePoint 2010 Dashboard Designer crashes.

Note The DashboardDesigner.exe.config file is an important part of the PerformancePoint 2010 Dashboard Designer application and it should not be changed or removed.

WORKAROUND

To work around this issue, follow these steps:
  1. Remove all the files in the ClickOnce cache directory.

    Note The default location for the ClickOnce cache directory is C:\Documents and Settings\username\Local Settings\Apps\2.0
  2. Download and reinstall PerformancePoint 2010 Dashboard Designer.
  3. Start PerformancePoint 2010 Dashboard Designer.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed in the "Applies to" section.
