On This PageSYMPTOMSYou try to create a read-only domain controller (RODC) installation media or an RODC SYSVOL installation media by using the Ntdsutil.exe tool together with the Install from Media (IFM) option on a computer that is running Windows Server 2008 or Windows Server 2008 R2. In this scenario, the installation media is created successfully, and you can use the installation media to install RODCs. However, many instance of the event that has Event ID 476 are logged in the Application log during the installation media creation process. These events may overwrite some important events. The following event is an instance of an event that has Event ID 476: Event Type: Error
CAUSEThis issue occurs because a flag is not set during the installation media creation process. RESOLUTIONHotfix informationA supported hotfix is available from Microsoft. However, this hotfix is intended to correct only the problem that is described in this article. Apply this hotfix only to systems that are experiencing the problem described in this article. This hotfix might receive additional testing. Therefore, if you are not severely affected by this problem, we recommend that you wait for the next software update that contains this hotfix.If the hotfix is available for download, there is a "Hotfix download available" section at the top of this Knowledge Base article.
