Performance warning occurs when configuring USB storage on an Xbox 360 console

SYMPTOMS

While configuring a USB storage device as a memory unit on an Xbox 360 console, you receive the following message:
Performance Warning

Your device is ready, but doesn't meet Xbox 360 performance recommendations.

You might experience significant performance problems playing games from the device or saving games and profiles to it.

CAUSE

This warning is displayed when your USB storage device does not meet the recommended minimum requirements for an Xbox 360 memory unit. Using the USB storage device can significantly affect the performance of your Xbox 360 console. For example, if you are playing a game that is set to automatically save to your console, the game might appear to stop responding when it is saving.

THINGS TO TRY

Replace your USB storage device with one that meets these minimum requirements:
  • Windows FAT32 file system format (devices formatted for use with other file systems might not work)
  • Minimum 1 gigabyte (1GB) storage capacity
To view information about your USB storage device
  1. Plug the USB storage device into a USB port on your Xbox 360 console.
  2. Press the Guide button on your controller, go to Settings, and select System Settings.
  3. Select Storage or Memory.
  4. In the list of storage devices, select the USB memory unit.
  5. Press the Y button.
You will see information about your USB storage device, including its performance rating.

Using a USB storage device that does not meet the minimum performance recommendations might significantly affect of the performance of your Xbox 360 console. For example, games might appear to stop responding when they are accessing a slow USB device.
