Error: "Can't Configure" occurs when configuring USB storage on an Xbox 360 console

SYMPTOMS

This message might occur while configuring a USB storage device as a memory unit. Typically, it means that the device is not working properly and has failed the data loss test.
Can't Configure

Your device failed the data loss test and can't be configured. Please use a different device.

THINGS TO TRY

Replace your USB storage device with one that meets the minimum requirements:
  • Minimum 1 gigabyte (1GB) storage capacity
  • Windows FAT32 file system format

    Note If the device was formatted in Windows using FAT16 or NTFS, you might be able to reformat it in Windows using FAT32. Macintosh or Linux formats do not work.
Note The official Xbox 360 USB flash drive from SanDisk is preconfigured to work with the Xbox 360 console.
