SYMPTOMSYou use an Office application on your computer to open a document on a SharePoint Server. For example, you try to co-author a document in Word, or to access it from Microsoft SharePoint Workspace 2010. Instead of opening the document that you wanted to open, a prior document is opened. This issue occurs when the following conditions are true:
CAUSEOffice 2010 Upload Center stores copies of files that you have opened from Office Document Cache. When you open an Office document, Office Document Cache converts the file name of the document into lowercase characters and then opens the cached version of the file. In the example that is mentioned in the "Symptoms" section, Office Document Cache converts the "İ" character to the "i" character. If two documents have names that differ only by this character, the wrong document may be opened. This behavior occurs when one document was previously opened and then closed and when the document has a similar name to the document that you want to open. Additionally, this behavior occurs when the first document is still in Office Document Cache. This issue occurs because certain characters in file names are converted to lowercase characters incorrectly. WORKAROUNDTo work around this issue, use one of the following methods. Method 1 Open documents directly from the SharePoint library by using the Library tools. Do not use Office 2010 Upload Center. Method 2 Change Office Document Cache settings. Clear Office Document Cache and then prevent Office Document Cache from retaining closed documents. To clear Office Document Cache, follow these steps:
Method 3 Rename the affected files so that the file names are significantly different. If the files are part of a series, add a number string to the file name to help differentiate between the files. STATUSMicrosoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed in the "Applies to" section. APPLIES TO
