Symptoms

Consider the following scenario in Microsoft Excel 2013 or Excel 2010:
  • You open an Excel workbook that was created in Microsoft Office Excel 2003.
  • The workbook contains a chart.
In this scenario, the chart axis scaling may differ from when the chart is opened in Office Excel 2003 or in Microsoft Office Excel 2007. If the chart is a surface chart, the band colors that are used on the chart may also differ, because they are calculated by using the axis scale.

Cause

This issue occurs when the chart uses automatic settings for the axis options. The automatic settings might be different in Excel 2013 or Excel 2010 than in earlier versions of Excel.

Workaround

To work around this issue, change the axis options for the chart to Fixed or to Specific interval unit, and then set each axis option to match the chart values from Office Excel 2003.
