INTRODUCTION

This article describes how to access the registry information of Microsoft Office 2010 that is delivered by Click-to-Run.

When you install Office 2010 that is delivered by Click-to-Run, all the applications in the Office suite are running in a virtualized environment. None of the applications exist on the local file system. The local operating system is not aware that such applications are installed. To access the registry of the virtual environment, follow these steps:
  1. In Windows Vista or in Windows 7, click Start

    , type %systemroot%\system32 in the Start Search box or in the Search programs and files box, and then press ENTER.

    If you are prompted for an administrator password or for confirmation, type the password, or provide confirmation.

    In Windows XP, click Start, click Run, type %systemroot%\system32 in the Open box, and then click OK.
  2. Note the full location of the path that appears in the window that opens. For example, the path could be C:\Windows\System32.
  3. Open a Click-to-Run application. For example, open Click-to-Run Microsoft Word 2010.
  4. Type some text, and then select the text.
  5. On the Insert tab, click Hyperlink.
  6. In the Insert Hyperlink dialog box, type the full location that you noted in step 2 in the Address box, and then click OK. For example, type C:\Windows\system32\cmd.exe, and then click OK.
  7. Hold down CTRL, and then click the hyperlink.
  8. On the Microsoft Application_name Security Notice dialog box, click Yes, and then click OK.
  9. At a command prompt, type regedit.exe, and then press ENTER.
