An update that enables page tables to be cached in the L2 cache in Windows Embedded CE 6.0 R3 is available

Introduction

This update enables page tables to be cached in the Level 2 (L2) cache in Windows Embedded CE 6.0 R3. After you apply this update, the Memory Management Unit (MMU) can fetch the Page Table Entries (PTE) from the L2 cache instead of the external memory when the Translation Lookaside Buffer (TLB) lacks a translation. The update increases the performance of the processor significantly.

The update extends the OEMGLOBAL structure for ARM CPUs by adding the dwTTBRCacheBits and the pfnPTEUpdateBarrier fields. The dwTTBRCacheBits field indicates the additional Translation Table Base Register (TTBR) setting for the TTBR0 and the TTBR1 registers for the CPU. The pfnPTEUpdateBarrier field points to a barrier function for page table entries. These two fields are optional for the OEM adaption layer (OAL).

Prerequisites

This update is supported only if all previously issued updates for this product have also been installed.

Restart requirement

After you apply this update, you must perform a clean build of the whole platform. To do this, use one of the following methods:

• On the Build menu, click Clean Solution, and then click Build Solution.
• On the Build menu, click Rebuild Solution.

You do not have to restart the computer after you apply this software update.
