"User modifications to the SharePoint content database" error message when you upgrade a SharePoint Server 2007 content database to SharePoint Server 2010Article ID: 982579 - View products that this article applies to. SYMPTOMSWhen you upgrade a Microsoft Office SharePoint Server 2007
content database to Microsoft SharePoint Server 2010, you receive the following
error message in the upgrade log: User modifications to
the SharePoint content database, including but not limited to table schemas,
index, stored procedures, are not supported and will cause upgrade to future
versions of SharePoint to fail. The databases in the following list seem to
have been modified from the original schema: <Database>Data Source=DataSource;Initial Catalog=CatalogName;Integrated Security=True;Enlist=False;Connect Timeout=Number</Database> [DatabaseSchema] [ERROR] [Date Time]: [CatalogName].[CatBucketInfo] EXTRA Table [DatabaseSchema] [ERROR] [Date Time]: [CatalogName].[CatDef] EXTRA Table [DatabaseSchema] [ERROR] [Date Time]: [CatalogName].[CatGroup] EXTRA Table [DatabaseSchema] [ERROR] [Date Time]: [CatalogName].[CatJoint] EXTRA Table [DatabaseSchema] [ERROR] [Date Time]: [CatalogName].[CatKeyword] EXTRA Table [DatabaseSchema] [ERROR] [Date Time]: [CatalogName].[CatOrgleList] EXTRA Table [DatabaseSchema] [ERROR] [Date Time]: [CatalogName].[CatPath] EXTRA Table [DatabaseSchema] [ERROR] [Date Time]: [CatalogName].[CatPredefined] EXTRA Table [DatabaseSchema] [ERROR] [Date Time]: [CatalogName].[PortalPerm] EXTRA Table [DatabaseSchema] [ERROR] [Date Time]: [CatalogName].[PortalPermDelta] EXTRA Table [DatabaseSchema] [ERROR] [Date Time]: [CatalogName].[PortalPermInfo] EXTRA Table [DatabaseSchema] [ERROR] [Date Time]: [CatalogName].[PortalProperties] EXTRA Table [DatabaseSchema] [ERROR] [Date Time]: [CatalogName].[PortalSchemaVersion] EXTRA Table [DatabaseSchema] [ERROR] [Date Time]: [CatalogName].[SearchScopeEntities] EXTRA Table [DatabaseSchema] [ERROR] [Date Time]: [CatalogName].[SearchScopes] EXTRA Table Note You also receive this error message if you run the Pre-Upgrade Checker tool for the content database. CAUSEThis issue occurs because the content database was
previously upgraded from Microsoft Office SharePoint Portal Server 2003 to
SharePoint Server 2007. Because of this upgrade, some tables in the database
became obsolete. However, they were not deleted. Therefore, the schema of these
tables does not match with the SharePoint Server 2007 schema. WORKAROUNDTo work around this issue, manually delete the tables that
are listed in the above
error message, and then retry the upgrade
operation. Note If you have a table name that is not listed in the error message, then that table was added manually. You have to move that table to a different database before you delete it.Then, you can continue with the upgrade.
