A new application window opens when you try to view an Office 2010 document in Internet Explorer 7 or in Internet Explorer 8

When you try to open a Microsoft Word 2010 document, a Microsoft Excel 2010 document, or a Microsoft PowerPoint 2010 document in Windows Internet Explorer 7 or in Internet Explorer 8, the document may not open in the same window as Internet Explorer. Instead, the document opens in a new Word 2010 application window, a new Excel 2010 application window, or in a new PowerPoint 2010 application window.

This behavior occurs if the BrowserFlags DWORD value was added to the registry. For more information about the BrowserFlags DWORD value, click the following article number to view the article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:

4. Double-click FileName.reg to run this registry script.
5. Start Internet Explorer 7.
