SYMPTOMS

Consider the following scenario:
  • You use a user account to log on to a computer.
  • You use a different user account to log on to a Microsoft SharePoint 2010 server.
  • You try to take offline a simple solution to Microsoft Outlook 2010 or to Microsoft SharePoint Workspace 2010.
When you do this, the deployment fails. Additionally, you receive the following error message:
Name:
From: http://Server_name/Lists/PC/ClientSolution/GUID.vsto
************** Exception Text **************
System.Deployment.Application.DeploymentDownloadException: Downloading http://Server_name/Lists/PC/ClientSolution/GUID.vsto did not succeed. ---> System.Net.WebException: The remote server returned an error: (401) Unauthorized.

CAUSE

This issue occurs when the user account that you use to log on to the SharePoint 2010 server differs from the user account that you use to log on to the client computer.

WORKAROUND

To work around this issue, you must use the same user account to log on to both the client computer and the SharePoint 2010 server.
