Symptoms

You insert an OLE object that is created in a 32-bit process into a 64-bit process on a computer that is running a 64-bit version of Windows 7 or Windows Server 2008 R2. However, the object may be displayed as an icon instead of the actual object.

For example, you are running a 64-bit version of Windows 7 that has a 32-bit version of Microsoft Office installed. When you start WordPad (Wordpad.exe) and then click Insert object, the Office components are not displayed in the object list as expected.

Cause

This issue occurs because Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008 R2 no longer perform registry reflection.
