Article ID: 932243 - Last Review: May 20, 2008 - Revision: 2.1 The updates that you apply to a Multilingual User Interface (MUI) Language Pack are lost when you restart a computer that is running Windows Vista
On This PageSYMPTOMSOn a computer that is running Windows Vista, you apply updates to a Multilingual User Interface (MUI) Language Pack, to MUI files, and to the MUI cache in the memory. However, when you restart the computer, the updates that you applied to the MUI Language Pack are lost. For example, you apply the update in Microsoft Knowledge Base (KB) article 930585 to the MUI Language Pack on a computer that is running the Romanian-language version of Windows Vista. Then, the problem that is described in KB article 930585 is resolved by the update. However, after you restart the computer, this problem occurs again. Note After you restart the computer, the MUI files that are stored on the disk remain updated. CAUSEThis issue occurs because Windows Vista does not write the MUI cache in the memory to the MUI cache that is stored on the disk before you restart the computer. After your restart the computer, Windows Vista rebuilds the MUI cache in the memory according to the MUI cache that is stored on the disk. Therefore, the updated MUI cache in the memory does not contain the content from the MUI Language Pack that you applied. RESOLUTIONService pack informationTo resolve this problem, obtain the latest service pack for Windows Vista.
