SYMPTOMS

In Windows Vista, the address for a Web page may not be included when you use the Snipping Tool to capture a Windows Internet Explorer window.

CAUSE

This issue may occur if you run Internet Explorer and the Snipping Tool by using different user rights. For example, this issue may occur if the following conditions are true:
  • You run Internet Explorer by using standard user rights.
  • Then, you run the Snipping Tool by using elevated user rights.

WORKAROUND

To work around this issue, run Internet Explorer and the Snipping Tool by using the same user rights.

Steps to reproduce the problem

  1. Log on to Windows Vista by using a local standard user account.
  2. View a Web page in Internet Explorer.
  3. Click Start

    , click All Programs, click Accessories, right-click Snipping Tool, and then click Run as administrator.
  4. Click the user account that you want to use, type the password, and then click OK.
  5. In the Snipping Tool, click Window Snip.
  6. Click the Internet Explorer window.
  7. Click File, and then click Save As.
  8. Type a name for the file, click Single file HTML (MHT), and then click Save.
