Windows Explorer and Windows Media Center do not display the thumbnail for MPEG2 format video files in Windows Vista

SYMPTOMS

The following problems may occur in Windows Vista:
  • Microsoft Windows Explorer does not display the thumbnail for MPEG2 format video files when you open the video folder.
  • Microsoft Windows Media Center does not display the thumbnail for MPEG2 format video files when you open the video library.
  • When you right-click a MPEG2 format video in the Windows Media Center video library and then click Video Details, you receive an error message that resembles the following:
    Unable to display video thumbnail

    Windows Media Center is unable to display the thumbnail for this video.
Note This problem does not affect how the MPEG2 file plays.

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed in the "Applies to" section.
