When you use Device Manager to view the properties of an SMSC infrared receiver, the version information appears as garbled text. Or, "Not Available" appears instead of the version information. This problem occurs if you install the SMSC Infrared Data Association (IrDA) driver that is on the Vista OEM Supplement DVD. CAUSE
This problem occurs because the "[Version]" section of the Smscir.inf driver file is incomplete. STATUSMicrosoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed in the "Applies to" section. MORE INFORMATION
