SYMPTOMS

When you try to install the Microsoft Exchange Best Practices Analyzer on a Windows Vista-based computer, you receive the following error message:

There is a problem with this Windows Installer package. A program required for this install to complete could not be run. Contact your support personnel or package vendor.

Additionally, an event that resembles the following is logged in the Application log:

CAUSE

This issue occurs if you install the Exchange Best Practices Analyzer 2.7 or an earlier version of the Exchange Best Practices Analyzer. The Exchange Best Practices Analyzer 2.7 and earlier versions of the Exchange Best Practices Analyzer are incompatible with Windows Vista.

Install the Exchange Best Practices Analyzer 2.8 or a later version of the Exchange Best Practices Analyzer. To obtain Exchange Best Practices Analyzer 2.8, visit the following Microsoft Web site:

Note Before you install the tool, the computer must meet the following requirements:

The Microsoft .NET Framework 1.1 must be installed. To download the .NET Framework 1.1 and the latest service pack for the .NET Framework 1.1, visit the following Microsoft Web site:

The Internet Information Services (IIS) Common HTTP Features component must be enabled. To enable this component, follow these steps:

  If you are prompted for an administrator password or for confirmation, type your password, or click Continue.
3. Expand Internet Information Services, and then expand World Wide Web Services.
4. Click to select the Common Http Features check box, and then click OK.
