You cannot set up the TV feature after you upgrade from Windows XP Media Center Edition to Windows Vista

SYMPTOMS

You cannot set up the TV feature after you upgrade from Windows XP Media Center Edition to Windows Vista.

CAUSE

This problem occurs if you remap the drive on which the TV recordings are stored in Windows XP Media Center to another drive in Windows Vista.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this problem, use one of the following methods.

Method 1: Reconfigure Recorder in Windows Media Center

  1. Click Start

    , and then click Windows Media Center.
  2. In the Start window, scroll to Tasks, click Settings, and then click TV.
  3. Click Recorder, and then click Recorder Storage.
  4. In the Record on drive area, select a drive that you want to record to.
  5. Restart the computer.

Method 2: Edit the registry

Warning Serious problems might occur if you modify the registry incorrectly by using Registry Editor or by using another method. These problems might require that you reinstall the operating system. Microsoft cannot guarantee that these problems can be solved. Modify the registry at your own risk.
  1. Click Start, type regedit in the Start Search box, and then press ENTER.

    Note If you see the User Account Control dialog box, click Continue.
  2. Locate and then click the following registry subkey:
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\MediaCenter\Service\Recording
  3. In the details pane, right-click RecordPath, and then click Modify.
  4. In the Value data box, type the path of a folder that has sufficient space to store recordings. For example, type D:\Recorded TV.
