FIX: Encoder objects try to create multiple push publishing points on a Windows Media server from a single process

Consider the following scenario:

• You use an application that is based on the Microsoft Windows Media Encoder SDK or the Windows Media Format SDK.
• The application uses a single process to create multiple encoder objects.

In this scenario, the encoder objects try to create multiple push publishing points on a Windows Media server.

Note This hotfix does not have a 64-bit version for Windows XP. This package applies the 32-bit version of this hotfix on the 64-bit version of Windows XP.

The global version of this hotfix has the file attributes (or later file attributes) that are listed in the following table. The dates and times for these files are listed in Coordinated Universal Time (UTC). When you view the file information, it is converted to local time. To find the difference between UTC and local time, use the Time Zone tab in the Date and Time item in Control Panel.

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a bug in the Microsoft products that are listed in the "Applies to" section. This problem was first corrected in Windows Vista Service Pack 1.

To enable this hotfix, you must set a registry value on the encoding computer for all user accounts that will run Windows Media Encoder. To do this, follow these steps:

1. Click Start, click Run, type regedit, and then click OK.
2. Locate and then click the following registry key:
   HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows Media\WMSDK\General
3. On the Edit menu, point to New, and then click DWORD Value.
4. Name the value MultiplePushToSameServer, and set the value to 1.
