SYMPTOMS

Consider the following scenario:

You have a computer that is running Windows Server 2008 or Windows Vista.
Multicast forwarding is enabled.

In this scenario, the system may restart repeatedly with different Stop error codes, such as 0x0000001E or 0x000000D1. Or, the system may stop responding. This problem does not occur if you disable multicast forwarding.

CAUSE

This problem occurs because the TCP/IP component tries to change the timer queue while while the TCP/IP component holds a read-only lock. However, the TCP/IP component must obtain a write lock. Because the TCP/IP component does not obtain a write lock, the queue becomes corrupted.

RESOLUTION

Hotfix information

A supported hotfix is available from Microsoft. However, this hotfix is intended to correct only the problem that is described in this article. Apply this hotfix only to systems that are experiencing this specific problem. This hotfix might receive additional testing. File information

The English version of this hotfix has the file attributes (or later file attributes) that are listed in the following table. The dates and times for these files are listed in Coordinated Universal Time (UTC). When you view the file information, it is converted to local time. To find the difference between UTC and local time, use the Time Zone tab in the Date and Time item in Control Panel.

Note The MANIFEST files (.manifest) and the MUM files (.mum) that are installed for each environment are listed separately in the "Additional file information for Windows Server 2008 and for Windows Vista" section.
