When you try to send a fax by using Windows Fax and Scan in the Simplified Chinese version of Windows Vista, the Chinese characters on the cover page may appear as squares

Consider the following scenario:

• You are running the Simplified Chinese version of Windows Vista.
• You try to send a fax by using a built-in Fax Cover Page template in Windows Fax and Scan.

In this scenario, the Chinese characters on the cover page may appear as squares.

This problem may occur if there are incorrect font settings in the Fax Cover Page templates.

To work around this problem, save a Fax Cover Page template as a personal template. Set the correct font, and then send the fax by using the new template. To do this, follow these steps:

1. Click Start, point to All Programs, and then click Windows Fax and Scan.
2. On the Tools menu, click Cover Pages.
3. Click Copy, and then select the template that you want to use.
4. Click the template that you want to modify, and then click Open to start the Fax Cover Page Editor.
5. Select the first text box, and then change the font to Simsun in the Font Name box.
6. Repeat step 5 for all the text boxes.
7. On the File menu, click Save, and then exit the Fax Cover Page Editor.
8. On the File menu, point to New, and then click Fax.
9. In the Cover Page box, click TemplateName (Personal).
   
   Note TemplateName represents the template that you just modified.
10. Add the addressing information, the subject, and the contents of the fax, and then click Send.
