FIX: An application that calls the acmFormatChoose function crashes on a computer that is running Windows Vista

Consider the following scenario:

• On a computer that is running Windows Vista, you use Microsoft Office PowerPoint 2007 to record audio, or you use another application to record audio.
• The application calls the acmFormatChoose function to display a dialog box so that you can select the waveform-audio format.

In this scenario, the application crashes.

The acmFormatChoose function tries to free a pointer that was not allocated.

A supported hotfix is now available from Microsoft. However, it is intended to correct only the problem that this article describes. Apply it only to systems that are experiencing this specific problem.

Steps to reproduce the problem

1. Start PowerPoint 2007.
2. On the Slide Show menu, click Record narration.
3. Click Change quality.
4. Click Save as.
5. Close the dialog boxes that are open.
