When you configure a wireless connection in Windows Vista, the Service Set Identifier (SSID) information may display the wireless profile name instead of the actual SSID.

This problem occurs after the wireless profile name is renamed.

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a bug in the Microsoft products that are listed in the "Applies to" section.

This problem does not affect connectivity in any way.

Steps to reproduce the problem

1. Configure a new wireless connection in Windows Vista.
2. Click Start

   , type Network and Sharing Center in the Start Search box, and then click Network and Sharing Center in the Programs list.
3. In the Network and Sharing Center, click the View Status link on the right side of your new wireless connection.
4. Note the SSID.
5. Click Close.
6. Under Tasks, click Manage Wireless Networks.
7. Right-click the new wireless connection, and then click Rename.
8. Type a new name for the wireless profile, press ENTER, and then close the window.
9. In the Network and Sharing Center, click View Status.

The SSID field now displays the new profile name, instead of the SSID. If you click Wireless Properties, the correct SSID is displayed.
