The upgrade process stops when you upgrade to Windows Vista by using a customized WIM file

Expand all | Collapse all

SYMPTOMS

You can customize a Windows Imaging Format (WIM) file before you deploy Windows Vista, and then upgrade to Windows Vista by using the customized WIM file. However, the upgrade process stops when you use the customized WIM file.

CAUSE

This issue occurs when you customize a WIM file by adding some applications, drivers, and other specific configurations for computers or common configurations that are needed for specific roles. When you upgrade to Windows Vista by using the customized WIM file, the upgrade process merges the contents of the WIM file with the contents of the computer. Therefore, conflicts may occur. When conflicts occur, the upgrade process stops.

WORKAROUND

To work around this issue, use testing to verify the customized WIM file before you deploy Windows Vista.
