Consider the following scenario:
- You try to deploy Windows Vista by using an Unattend.xml file that has an oobeSystem configuration pass.
- This oobeSystem configuration pass has the following specification:
<Reseal>
<ForceShutdownNow>true</ForceShutdownNow>
<Mode>OOBE</Mode>
</Reseal>
In this scenario, the unatted settings make the computer shut down as expected. However, every time that you restart the computer, the computer shuts down again.
This problem occurs because the cached Unattend.xml file in the %Windir%\Panther directory is not marked as processed. When you restart the computer, the cached Unattend.xml file may be reused. Therefore, the unattend settings are processed again, and the computer shuts down again.
To resolve this problem, use one of the following methods.
Method 1
Remove the cached Unattend.xml file from the %Windir%\Panther directory.
Method 2
Before you restart the computer, put a higher-precedence Unattend.xml file in the %Windir%\Panther\Unattend folder of the offline image.
