The IME language bar disappears, and you cannot input non-English characters after you close an Excel chart on a computer that is running the Korean or Japanese version of Windows Vista

Consider the following scenario:

• You have the 2007 Microsoft Office system installed on a computer that is running the Korean or Japanese version of Windows Vista.
• You try to insert a chart in a 2007 Office document. For example, you try to do this in a Microsoft Office Word 2007 document.

In this scenario, Microsoft Office Excel 2007 starts automatically. When you exit Excel 2007 and return to the original program, the Input Method Editor (IME) language bar disappears. Therefore, you cannot input anything other than English-language characters.

Hotfix information

A supported hotfix is available from Microsoft. However, this hotfix is intended to correct only the problem that is described in this article. Apply this hotfix only to systems that are experiencing this specific problem. This hotfix might receive additional testing. Therefore, if you are not severely affected by this problem, we recommend that you wait for the next software update that contains this hotfix.

Steps to reproduce the problem

1. Start Word 2007, and then maximize the Word 2007 window.
2. In Word, open the Korean IME language bar
3. Insert a chart in a Word document. To do this, click Insert, click Chart, and then click OK.
   
   Note When you do this, Excel automatically starts. Additionally, the IME language bar is disabled in Excel.
4. Exit Excel, and then return to Word. Notice that the IME language bar disappears.
