SYMPTOMS

When you try to upgrade an x64-based version of Windows XP to Windows Vista, you receive the following error message:
Upgrade has been disabled. To upgrade, you must be running Windows Vista build 5383 or later, or Windows XP with Service Pack 2 or later.
You receive this error message as soon as you run the Setup.exe file and then click Upgrade. Additionally, the upgrade is blocked.

MORE INFORMATION

You can only upgrade an x86-based version of Windows XP to Windows Vista. Upgrading from an x64-based version of Windows XP to Windows Vista is not supported.

Additionally, the error message that is mentioned in the "Symptoms" section is incorrect. You should receive an error message that resembles the following:
Upgrade from Windows XP x64 to Windows Vista is unsupported.
