When you restart a Windows Vista-based computer, the system does not send a restart notification to the ATA miniport driver

When you restart a Windows Vista-based computer, some devices that are based on the ATA miniport driver may not work correctly. For example, if a device driver intends to write data back to a device when the computer restarts, the data may not be written back as expected.

This problem may occur because the system does not send a restart notification to the ATA miniport driver.

After you apply the following hotfix, the system sends an IDE request block (IRB) request to the ATA miniport driver when the computer restarts. This indicates to the ATA miniport driver that the system is restarting.

Hotfix information

A supported hotfix is available from Microsoft. However, this hotfix is intended to correct only the problem that is described in this article. Apply this hotfix only to systems that are experiencing this specific problem. This hotfix might receive additional testing.
