SYMPTOMS

Consider the following scenario:
  • You are running a Windows Vista Media Center-based computer.
  • You eject a DVD or a Video CD (VCD) from the computer.
  • You reinsert the DVD or the VCD and then resume playback.
In this scenario, the video window may appear black for five seconds or more. In some instances, video playback may not resume at all.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this problem, adjust the AutoPlay settings for DVD and VCD content by configuring Windows to use Windows Media Center. To do this, follow these steps:
  1. Click Start

, type autoplay in the Start Search box, and then click AutoPlay in the Programs list.
  2. In the DVD movie box, click Play DVD movie using Windows Media Center.
  3. In the Enhanced DVD movie box, click Play DVD movie using Windows Media Center.
  4. In the Video CD box, click Play DVD movie using Windows Media Center.
  5. In the Super Video CD box, click Play DVD movie using Windows Media Center.

Note If you click Stop to interrupt the playback of a DVD or of a VCD, and then you start playback from the beginning of the disc, this problem is typically resolved. However, in this scenario, the bookmark of the spot in the video where you interrupted playback is lost. In rare instances, you may have to exit Windows Media Center and then restart the application before you can continue video playback.
