Consider the following scenario:

• You are running a Windows Vista-based computer.
• You use an independent hardware vendor (IHV) profile that implements a third-party Extensible Authentication Protocol (EAP) method to establish a wireless connection.

In this scenario, you may be unable to connect to a wireless network.

Note This problem does not occur on a Windows XP-based computer.

When Windows Vista uses an IHV profile, a third-party EAP method notifies the EAPHost component that the EAP method must save the new configuration. However, because of an error in the EAPHost component, the profile may not save the configuration as expected.

Hotfix information

A supported hotfix is available from Microsoft. However, this hotfix is intended to correct only the problem that is described in this article. Apply this hotfix only to systems that are experiencing this specific problem. This hotfix might receive additional testing. Therefore, if you are not severely affected by this problem, we recommend that you wait for the next software update that contains this hotfix.
