You upgrade Windows XP Service Pack 2 (SP2) to Windows Vista
or to Windows Vista Service Pack 1 (SP1). However, the following Windows Time
Synchronization service (W32Time)-related registry settings are not updated to
the default Windows Vista values.

How to back up and restore the registry in Windows
To manually change these settings to the default Windows
Vista values, follow these steps:
Click Start, type
regedit in the Start Search box, and
then click regedit in the Programs list. If
you are prompted for an administrator password or for confirmation, type the
password, or click Continue.
Locate and then click the following registry subkey:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\W32Time\Config
Right-click LargePhaseOffset, and then
click Modify.
In the Value data box, type
02faf080, and then click OK.
Right-click SpikeWatchPeriod, and then
click Modify.
In the Value data box, type
00000384, and then click OK.
Locate and then click the following registry subkey:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\W32Time\TimeProviders\NtpClient
Right-click EventLogFlags, and then click
Modify.
In the Value data box, type
1, and then click OK.
Locate and then click the following registry subkey:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\W32Time\TimeProviders\NtpServer

of a microsecond (A tenth of a microsecond is equal
to 10 to the power of -7). Times
that are larger than or equal to this value are considered suspicious and possibly
incorrect.

a suspicious time offset must persist before it is accepted as correct.
