SYMPTOMS

Consider the following scenario:
  • You have a version of Microsoft SQL Server 2008 Books Online that is earlier than May 2008 installed on the computer.
  • Then, you install the May 2009 version of SQL Server 2008 Books Online.
In this scenario, under the Documentation and Tutorials folder, you find the SQL Server 2008 Books Online shortcuts and the SQL Server 2008 Books Online folder disappear from the Start menu.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this problem, repair the shortcuts for SQL Server 2008 Books Online. To do this, use one of the following methods.

Option 1

Windows Vista

In Programs and Features, click Repair for SQL Server 2008 Books Online.

Windows XP

In Add or Remove Programs, click Repair for SQL Server 2008 Books Online.

Option 2

Run a command that resembles the following command:
C:\>msiexec /fs SQLServer2008_BOL_May2009_JPN.msi /qb

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed in the "Applies to" section.
