SYMPTOMS

Phone Dialer does not dial the code to disable call waiting, even though the "This location has call waiting. To disable it, dial <code>" option is enabled in Dialing properties.

CAUSE

Phone Dialer does not use this setting.

RESOLUTION

To add a code to disable call waiting to the phone number being dialed, use any one of the following methods:
  • Insert the code to disable call waiting as part of the number to be dialed. For example, enter the following number to be dialed:
    *70,555-1212

NOTE: Depending on your area or phone type, the code to disable call waiting could be *70, 70#, or 1170. If you are unsure of the correct code, please contact your local phone company.
  • Insert the code to disable call waiting as part of the outside line access field in Dialing properties. If you do so, make sure to clear the "This location has call waiting. To disable it, dial <code>" check box in Dialing properties to avoid having the code dialed twice in other programs (such as Dial-Up Networking).

STATUS

This behavior is by design. The disable call waiting setting is used for modem and fax calls only.
