WD: Custom Footnotes Disappear After Spell Check

SYMPTOMS

After using the spelling checker on a document, custom footnote references disappear.

CAUSE

This happens if you add a space between a word and the custom footnote mark while using the spelling checker on a document.

WORKAROUND

  • After the spelling checker is finished, click the down arrow next to the Undo button on the Standard toolbar. Select Spelling Change. -or-

  • Add the space between the words and the reference marks before checking the spelling.

MORE INFORMATION

You can insert a custom footnote mark by clicking Footnote on the Insert menu and typing in the Custom Mark box.
