To enable Internet Mail to play a sound when new messages arrive, follow these steps:

  1. On the Mail menu, click Options.
  2. Click the Read tab.
  3. Click the Play Sound When New Messages Arrive check box to select it.
  4. Click Apply, and then click OK.
To assign a specific sound file to be played when new mail arrives, follow these steps:

  1. Click the Start button, point to Settings, and then click Control Panel.
  2. In Control Panel, double-click Sounds.
  3. In the Events box, click New Mail Notification.
  4. In the Name box in the Sound area, click the sound file you want to use for new mail notification.
  5. Click Apply, and then click OK.
NOTE: If Microsoft Exchange is installed, it plays the same sound file when new Microsoft Exchange mail is received.
