SYMPTOMS

If you use Publisher Setup to remove Publisher 3.0 from a computer that also has Publisher 97 installed, some Publisher 97 features will stop working correctly. For example,
  • PageWizard Design Assistants will not appear in the Startup dialog box.
  • The Background Schemes dialog box will not list any schemes.
  • The Design Gallery will be empty.
In addition, you will receive error messages when you try to use the following features:
  • Mail Merge
  • The Hyphenation Dictionary

CAUSE

When you uninstall Publisher 3.0, the following key is deleted from your Windows registry:
   HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Publisher

Because Publisher 97 also uses this key, some features stop working when it is removed.

RESOLUTION

To successfully register all the Publisher features, run Setup again and click the Reinstall button.
