SYMPTOMS

When you perform an administrative installation (Setup /a) of Microsoft Office 97, the following message may appear after all files are copied to the network server:
Setup is updating your system files
and the Setup program may appear to hang.

CAUSE

Although it appears that all files have been copied, the Office 97 Setup program is still copying additional files to the network server. Specifically, Setup is copying ClipArt files to the network server during this phase of the administrative installation. Because Office 97 includes approximately 3400 ClipArt files, Setup may take a long time (up to 30 minutes or more) to complete the operation.

RESOLUTION

If the computer appears to hang when the "Setup is updating your system files" message is displayed, allow Setup to finish copying files to the network server. In most cases, copying the ClipArt files to the server should take no more than one hour.

APPLIES TO
  • Microsoft Office 97 Standard Edition
