FP97: Clip Art File Names Appended with Hexadecimal Number

In Microsoft FrontPage Editor, when you save a Web page that contains a clip art image, the image file name is appended with a random hexadecimal number. For example, when you save a page that contains Festive.gif, FrontPage Editor suggests Festive7c.gif as the file name in the Save Image to FrontPage Web dialog box. If you insert the same image multiple times, FrontPage Editor suggests a new name for each copy of the image that you inserted into your page.

This behavior does not occur in FrontPage 98 for Windows.

FrontPage Editor appends the random hexadecimal number to your image to allow independent image control on each instance of the image contained in your Web.

To reduce the number of images that FrontPage Editor adds to your Web, insert the clip art image one time, save the Web page, and then insert the image from the Current FrontPage Web tab (click Image on the Insert menu) instead of from the Clip Art tab. Note that this procedure also reduces the amount of hard disk space required to store the images you use in your Web.
