XL97: Run-Time Error '1004' Using CustomViews Collection

SYMPTOMS

In a Visual Basic for Applications macro, when you attempt to reference the last object in the CustomViews collection by index number, you may receive the following error message:

Run-Time Error '1004'
Application-defined or object-defined error

CAUSE

This problem occurs when the last view you create is the last object in the CustomViews collection.

To do this, use the following macro:

    Sub GetCustomViewNames()

   Dim VwArray() As String, i As Integer

   'Create a temporary view.
   ActiveWorkbook.CustomViews.Add "Temporary"

   For i = 1 To ActiveWorkbook.CustomViews.Count - 1
         ReDim Preserve VwArray( 1 To i)
         VwArray(i) = ActiveWorkbook.CustomViews(i).Name
         MsgBox VwArray(i)
   Next i
   'Delete temporary view.
   ActiveWorkbook.CustomViews("Temporary").Delete

   End Sub

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in the Microsoft products listed at the beginning of this article. This problem no longer occurs in Microsoft Excel 2000.
