SYMPTOMS

If you edit a Microsoft Draw object in a publication and then close that publication while Microsoft Draw is still open, you receive the following message:
You are saving a publication containing embedded objects which are still being edited in another program.

To save this publication, these objects must be updated. If you want Publisher to update the objects before saving, click OK. To return to Publisher without saving the publication, click Cancel. For more information on embedded objects, press F1 now.
If you click OK, the Microsoft Draw object does not reflect the most recent changes when you re-open the publication. In contrast, if you click OK with another type of OLE object, the object does appear correctly when you re-open the publication.

CAUSE

In this case, Microsoft Draw updates the embedded information for the object but does not update the appearance of that object on your screen.

RESOLUTION

To update the object, follow these steps:
  1. Double-click the Microsoft Draw object to edit it.

You will see the most recent changes when Microsoft Draw opens.
  2. On the File menu, click Update.
  3. On the File menu, click Exit and Return to <publication name>.
The Microsoft Draw object now appears correctly.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.
