SYMPTOMS

When you double-click a file with an .html extension, or any file in the Temporary Internet Files folder or the History folder, you may receive the following error message:
Cannot open file. Cannot find Program.exe.

CAUSE

This error message can occur if you have installed and then uninstalled the third-party Web Express program or the Internet FastFind program.

RESOLUTION

Web Express

To resolve this issue, reinstall Internet Explorer to change the association of .html files. To do so, follow these steps:

  1. Delete the following folders in the Program Files folder:
    Web Express
    Mvapps\Webex
    For information about how to delete folders, click Start, click Help, click the Index tab, type deleting, and then double-click the "Deleting files or folders" topic.
  2. Download and install the latest version of Internet Explorer.

Internet FastFind

To resolve this issue, remove Internet FastFind. To remove Internet FastFind, follow these steps:

  1. Click Start, point to Settings, and then click Control Panel.
  2. Double-click Add/Remove Programs.
  3. On the Install/Uninstall tab, click Internet FastFind in the list of installed programs, and then click Add/Remove.
