SUMMARY

This article describes how to restore deleted newsgroup messages after using the Local File Clean Up tool in Outlook Express.

MORE INFORMATION

To restore deleted newsgroup messages after using the Local File Clean Up tool, follow the steps in the appropriate section below:

Outlook Express 4.0, 4.01, 5 for Windows 95 and Windows NT 4.0

  1. Start Outlook Express, and then click a newsgroup server in the folder list.
  2. On the File menu, click Clean Up Files.
  3. Under File Information, click the server or newsgroup you want to restore, and then click Reset.
  4. Click Yes, and then click Close.

Outlook Express 5

To increase disk space by deleting stored newsgroup messages, follow these steps in Outlook Express 5:

  1. On the Tools menu, click Options.
  2. On the Maintenance tab, click Clean Up Now, and then click Delete.
  3. Click OK.
NOTE: Most news servers periodically remove old messages. The next time you connect to a newsgroup you have cleaned up, your message file contains only the current messages from your news server.

To restore deleted newsgroup messages after using the Clean Up Now option, follow these steps:

  1. On the Tools menu, click Options.
  2. On the Maintenance tab, select the options you want for maintaining the size of all message files on your computer.
  3. Click Clean Up Now, and then click Reset.
  4. Click OK.
