SYMPTOMS

Many preference settings from the Word Settings(5) and Word Settings(6) files are not used by Microsoft Word 98 Macintosh Edition.

MORE INFORMATION

When Word 98 is installed over a previous version of Word, it uses very little information from the Word Settings(5) and Word Settings(6) files. These files store the settings that you specify when you click Preferences on the Tools menu in Word 5.x, or when you use the ToolsAdvancedSettings macro or the Options command on the Tools menu in Word 6.x.

Word 98 will use the Word Settings files to register Word 5.x user dictionaries or to locate the template folder for Word 6.

Word 98 uses settings stored in templates in Word 6.x (such as the default font, styles, and toolbar modifications) when it is installed properly over Word 6.x.
