SYMPTOMS

When you click OK in the About Internet Explorer dialog box, you may receive the following error message:

Windows 95

This program has performed an illegal operation and will be shut down.
If the problem persists, contact the program vendor.
If you click Details, you may see the following error message:
EXPLORER caused an invalid page fault in module MSHTML.DLL at <address>

Windows 98

This program has performed an illegal operation and will be shut down.
If the problem persists, contact the program vendor.
If you click Details, you may see the either of the following error messages:
EXPLORER caused an invalid page fault in module MSHTML.DLL at <address>
EXPLORER caused an invalid page fault in module <unknown> at <address>

Windows NT

An application error has occurred and an application error log is being generated.
explorer.exe
Exception: access violation (0xc0000005), Address: <address>


When you click Close, you may receive the same error message, and then the Active Desktop Recovery screen may be displayed.

CAUSE

This behavior can occur if you click OK without releasing the mouse button and you then right-click the globe graphic in the upper-left corner of the dialog box.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in the products listed above.
