SYMPTOMS

When you start your computer to a command prompt and then try to create a new folder that contains more than 67 characters, you may receive the following error message:

When you start your computer to a command prompt and then try to change to a folder that contains more than 67 characters, you may receive the following error message:
Invalid directory

CAUSE

This behavior occurs because Windows 95 and Windows 98 adheres to the MS- DOS path limit of 67 characters when you start your computer to a command prompt.

RESOLUTION

To work around this issue, start your computer normally, and then create or view folders.
