FP98: Using Navigation Bars With Shared Borders

Shared borders are page regions (top, bottom, left, and right) that are used to hold content that you want to appear consistently across all pages in your Web. Shared borders are stored in four files in the _borders folder of the Web:

• Top.htm
• Bottom.htm
• Left.htm
• Right.htm

When you use a navigation bar on a Web that contains a shared border, you will be able to specify page-per-page properties for the navigation bar. However, when the navigation bar is viewed in the browser, it will only retain the characteristics of the last setting specified.

Depending on which region is active when you insert a navigation bar in a shared borders region, it will be inserted into one of four files. (For more information about these files, see the "More Information" section of this article.) The navigation bar and its properties are written to the file that corresponds to the active shared border region. The same navigation bar and properties are stored with every page in the Web that uses a shared border.
