OFF98: Starting an Office Program Prompts You for the Office 98 CD

SYMPTOMS

When you start a Microsoft Office 98 Macintosh Edition program, the following alert message may appear:
Please insert the disk:
"Microsoft Office 98"

CAUSE

This problem may occur when you do the following:

  1. You insert the Microsoft Office 98 compact disc (CD) into your computer.
  2. You click Eject Disk on the Special menu [Macintosh operating system (OS) versions 7.5.x, 7.6, or 7.6.1].

    -or-

    You hold down OPTION and click Eject And Leave Behind on the Special menu (OS 8.0 or 8.1).
  3. You start an Office 98 program.

WORKAROUND

To prevent this problem from occurring, eject the Office 98 CD by dragging the icon for the Office 98 CD to the Trash.

STATUS
